Google Pixel 8 Pro with Thermometer Sensor: A New Gimmick or a Useful Feature?

Google is rumored to be releasing a new flagship smartphone in 2023, the Pixel 8 Pro. One of the most interesting features of the Pixel 8 Pro is its built-in infrared thermometer sensor. This sensor will allow users to measure their body temperature without having to touch their skin.

The infrared thermometer sensor is a relatively new technology, and it is not yet clear how accurate it will be. However, it has the potential to be a very useful feature, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the ability to measure your body temperature at home, you can quickly and easily check for a fever, which is a common symptom of the virus.

In addition to its potential health benefits, the infrared thermometer sensor could also be used for other purposes. For example, it could be used to measure the temperature of food or liquids, or to check the temperature of a room.

Overall, the infrared thermometer sensor is a promising new feature for the Google Pixel 8 Pro. It has the potential to be a useful tool for both health and everyday use.

Here are some of the potential benefits of the Google Pixel 8 Pro’s infrared thermometer sensor:

  • It can be used to measure body temperature, which can be helpful for early detection of illnesses.
  • It can be used to measure the temperature of food and liquids, which can help to prevent food poisoning.
  • It can be used to check the temperature of a room, which can be helpful for people with medical conditions that are affected by temperature.
  • It can be used for other purposes, such as checking the temperature of a car engine or the surface of a work surface.

Here are some of the potential drawbacks of the Google Pixel 8 Pro’s infrared thermometer sensor:

  • The accuracy of the sensor is not yet known.
  • The sensor may not be sensitive enough to detect low-grade fevers.
  • The sensor may not be accurate for all people, such as those with dark skin.
  • The sensor may be more expensive than other thermometers.

Overall, the Google Pixel 8 Pro’s infrared thermometer sensor is a promising new feature with the potential to be a useful tool for both health and everyday use. However, it is important to be aware of the potential drawbacks of the sensor before purchasing a Pixel 8 Pro.

Google Pixel 8 Pro design details

The Pixel 8 Pro is seen with a punch-hole front camera much like the Pixel 7 Pro. At the rear, there are three cameras but this time Google has clubbed all three sensors inside the pill-shaped module. The Pixel 7 Pro has two cameras together and one separate at the back. The metal frame housing the camera module also looks the same as the Pixel 7 Pro. Here are some stills from the video (which has now been taken down).
